I've been trying to copy a film into mpeg format and seem to be getting a lot of combing when there is movement. Is there any way to negate this? I am using the program "Free Dvd Ripper".

When viewing an interlaced film on a computer, one has to turn on de-interlacing. In VLC, the menu path is
Video / Deinterlace / Blend

Also, I have encountered mpeg2 files in which the fields in the frames were not in the correct order. MEncoder has a filter named "phase" which can automatically correct this.
